Privacy Policy

TasteScan ("the app", "we") is operated by Emirhan Varlı. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Contact: hello@tastescan.app.

Information we collect

Photos you scan. When you scan a menu, bottle, dish or shelf, the photo is uploaded to our servers to be analyzed. Photos are used to produce your recommendation and to operate and improve the service.
Text queries. Dishes or questions you type are processed the same way as scans.
Taste profile data. Your quiz answers, feedback taps (e.g. "Chose it", "Loved it", "Not for me"), refine choices and saved decisions are stored to personalize future recommendations.
Account data. A user identifier is created for you (anonymous sign-in or, if offered, an email-based account).
Usage analytics. We use Google Firebase (including Firebase Analytics) to collect app interaction events, device type, approximate region and diagnostic information, to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
Purchase information. If you subscribe, the purchase is processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. We receive subscription status (not your card details). We may use RevenueCat to manage subscription status.

How photos and queries are processed

Scanned photos and typed queries are processed by third-party AI service providers (such as OpenAI) via their APIs to read menu content and generate recommendations. We send only what is needed to produce your result. Per those providers' API terms, API data is not used to train their models. Do not include people or sensitive personal information in your scans; the app is designed for menus, bottles and dishes.

What we do not do

We do not sell your personal information.
We do not use your photos for advertising.
We do not show third-party ads in the app.

Health and dietary information

If you set dietary constraints or allergen preferences, we use them only to shape recommendations. Recommendations are informational and can be wrong — always confirm ingredients with the restaurant. See our Terms for the full disclaimer.

Data retention and deletion

Profile and history data are retained while your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing hello@tastescan.app; we will act on verified requests within 30 days.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under GDPR and California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact hello@tastescan.app.

Children

TasteScan is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access to production data is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information appropriately.

International transfers

Our infrastructure providers (Google Firebase, AI service providers) may process data in the United States and other countries. We rely on their standard safeguards for such transfers.

Changes

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date on this page.
